The 2011/2012 English Premier League Season saw the end of an era for my beloved Blackburn Rovers. 11 consecutive years in the top flight for a club smaller than most Championship Clubs let alone Premier League ones is an achievement in itself, but the roller coaster ride experienced throughout the several campaigns has left us all with grey hairs. What is has also left us with are a range of memories to remember this era of football. Every single one of us will remember something different, so I have provided my 11 memories for our 11 Years in England's top flight.
11) 15th April 2009- Liverpool v Blackburn
One of the most emotional scenes ever experienced, with Blackburn Rovers' former Liverpool player Stephen Warnock laying a wreath in front of the Kop, marking the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough Tragedy. Rovers supporters joined Liverpool supporters to mark this date, and Warnock provided the final touch.
10) July 2003- The Signing of Brett Emerton
For many years, I was often asked, why Blackburn Rovers. Why support a team you have no affiliation with at all. Prior to this date, I would tell my story. The signing of Brett Emerton meant this story was no longer required, all I had to say was "Emo" and people would understand. Many years followed, I bragged and bragged about how versatile "Emo" was. I talked about his work ethic and how much he loved wearing the shirt. Not once did I say he was the most talented player in the world, as boy he isn't, but what "Emo" brought to the Rovers jersey was the Labore, the hard working, never say die attitude. Not to mention a few neat goals along the way.
9) 1st February, 2006- David Bentley Hat trick v Manchester United
Only a day after signing a permanent contract with Rovers following a successful loan spell, David Bentley scored the first Premier League hat trick against Manchester United in one of the most impressive performances in a Rovers shirt.
8) The Tugay Compilation
Someone once said Tugay never scores tap-ins. Boy where they right. The Maestro pulled the strings in midfield for Rovers, and also kept the Goal of the Month judges busy with several long range screamers. His down to earth mentality was a joy to behold, quickly becoming every fans favourite footballer
7) 5 February 2009- John Steven Taylor passes away
Tragedy struck at The Britannia after John Steven Taylor passed after an incident during the EPL match between Blackburn and Stoke. The father of one was well known within the Rovers Supporters group, a loving father and caring partner.
R.I.P John Steven Taylor
6) 7 November, 2009- Blackburn 3 Portsmouth 1
Whilst some might just skim over this as another match, I will always remember this match as the game where Benni McCarthy gave big Sam Allardyce a taste of his own medicine. After being made out of favour from the start of the season, Benni McCarthy came on at half time as Rovers were trailing to strugglers Portsmouth 1-0. Inspired by the entrance of the South African and Jason Roberts at the break, Rovers rose from the dead, turning one of the worst halves in EPL history into a massive 3-1 victory.

5) 17 November, 2004- Jack Walker Statue
It took a long time coming, but on a glorious afternoon, The Jack Walker Statue was unveiled at the Blackburn End of Ewood Park, located within the new Jack Walker Memorial Garden. Funded by donations, the Statue would serve as the everlasting memory of "Uncle Jack".
4) 1 March, 2007- Benni McCarthy v Arsenal
86th minute, 5th round Cup tie sitting at 0-0, Benni McCarthy stepped up to the plate. Battling second season syndrome, McCarthy struggled with his fitness all season, but boy did he step up and score a stunner
3) 24th February, 2002- Blackburn win the Worthington Cup
Making an appearance in a major final for the first time in 74 years, Blackburn Rovers defied the odds, overturning a red hot Tottenham outfit 2-1 on our first season back in the Premier League. Goals to local hero Matt Jansen and Andy Cole ensured Rovers would claim the trophy and head into Europe
2) 2009/2010- The East Lancashire Derby
It was the game that was circled on every bodies calendar. The East Lancashire Derby. And it did not fail to live up to expectations. Goals Galore, with a stunner from the Dingles to get us underway followed up by goals to David Dunn, Franco Di Santo and Pascal Chimbonda. A late scare could not halt the celebrations, Rovers winning 3-2 and the reverse tie 1-0 courtesy of a David Dunn penalty.
1) 24th May, 2009- Tugay's Farewell
The last game of the 2009 season saw Ewood Park's favourite son Tugay retire. The Turkish midfielder contributed so much to football at Blackburn, he was provided a standing ovation post match as he completed his lap of honour. Brought a tear to the eye.
